Any ideas what these are?

Was performing a bit of maintenance this afternoon, came across the 2nd picture which I had not seen before, it came with the new Trek but for the life of me I have no idea what its for, any ideas? I can only think its something to do with the disc brakes but I have certainly never used anything like it before. 1st picture is just to reassure me, I cam across what appears to be a sprung washer, it was perilously close to where I had been performing a bit of maintenance, only, I had not put it there, got me thinkign has it come off the bike somehow, but can not think where it would be used. Might be totally innocent but I did throw my bike about a bit today on the downhills so you never know. 10 points for identifying pic 1, 10 pts for identifying pic 2, in the case of tie, the winner will be decided by a complicated algorithm of giving points to the letters in the forum user name, ie. a=1 and b=2 and so on, the person with a score nearest 100 wins _________________ Drums keep pounding a rhythm to the brain La-dee-da-dee-dee La-dee-da-dee-da
