Hi,
Just put a bashring onto the Orange 5 today and set the front mech up roughly. To get the correct height does it just need to clear the bash? On a 3 ring setup I'd normally just line it up 2mm above the big ring. Its got 22/36 chainrings with ethirteen supercharger bash.

Any tips would be appreciated Smile

Sean, on my Giant the cable has been pulled in and the stop adjusted so you can't change up to the bash ring - does this make sense?

Not sure what you mean about pulling the cable in but I've adjusted the stop. I haven't fitted the chain yet so will have to see how it works out.

Only other thing is that the space between the pivot and 36T ring is very narrow but making it wider would mean I'd have to put another spacer on the drive side of the HT 2 bottom bracket. The bb shell on the 5 is 73mm so following Shimano's instructions it should have only 1 spacer anyway. If I put more in I'd risk upsetting the chainline I think. Confused

Sean, you must need an extra spacer on the bottom bracket - fitting the bash ring shouldn't affect where the chain sits - you must need two spacers on the chainring side and one on the left side.

Thats what I thought Dave, but didnt want to effect the chainline too much. I'll give it a try. Do you think I should run the HT 2 bb as a 68mm instead of 73mm, ie with 3 spacers? Confused

I'm assuming you've stepped the chainring size up from 32 to 36 which is causing the problem. So if you can fit another spacer in that should sort it although it may affect your chainline enough to cause problems but you'll just have to try.
You may have to sacrifice a few teeth and drop to a 34T chainring.

As for mech position when I did do it I lowered the front mech as much as possible (for asthetics sake rather than operation) so that it cleared the bashguard and still shifted when needed. Bit of fiddling to make sure it works again.

Just found this on the Orange website:

Quote:
The new Five model has been designed specifically around SPV/CVT shocks which have allowed us to use a lower more active pivot position. The new rear swingarm has been designed around a standard compact drive crankset i.e. 22/32/44 with a limit of a 32 tooth middle chainring, if you use a ring larger than this then it is possible it may touch the swingarm or catch as you downshift to the granny ring.

Opps! Embarassed Back to the drawing board I think. Sad
Anybody want to buy a bashring with 36T chainring?

I wondered why I hadn't seen more Orange 5's with double & bash set-up.

Tried again today to get the chainring to fit. It seems not to get caught if I put another spacer on the driveside of the HT 2 cup but this means that the 3 bottom gears on the cassette dont work very well - similar to trying to ride biggest ring at the front & biggest at the back in a 3 ring setup.
It looks like it effects the chainline too much.
What makes things more confusing is that the Orange 5 AM model comes with a 36T bigger ring and bashguard, so how do Orange manage this!?!? Confused
