I don't know if any of you guys are aware of the "Body For Life" training system, and approach to diet.

I've put a link to it here;

http://bodyforlife.com/exercise/index.asp

The weight training and cardio workout are the best sections viewed to get a simple appreciation of the program.
It's a very clever approach to weight training and weight loss, with some obvious anomalies if you have a basic understanding of physiological principles.

However, I also found this article on another of my favourite sites, which takes a look at the BFL system, 10 years later. It's an interesting article and well worth reading especially if you have an awareness of what BFL was about.

http://www.t-nation.com/free_online_article/sports_body_training_perfo rmance_interviews/body_of_work_10_years_later_1

There's one fantastic comment from one of the BFL competitors, that everybody should bear in mind...............................

"Keep it simple. There's no fancy workout, special diet, or magic supplement. Eat a healthy, varied diet. Train balls-out and be consistent. You just don't need anything more than that."

It really is that simple.

Core work, Marty, is a total fad and not worth wasting your time on, and I'm being terribly polite there. Wink

Should you do weight work........... Confused Confused

There is one fact that is undisputable, the stronger athlete will always win.

Core Work, Marty is this type of stuff...........

http://www.brianmac.co.uk/corestabex.htm

It's messing about with gym balls etc., when you should be performing "compound" exercises which stress multiple muscle groups Wink

Just skimmed this but kind of reminds me of an article I read when I was in my late teens and when I go through a gym phase I always use.

It was written by a guy called casey viator around the same time as arnie, he suggested training 3 days a week but in a way that each body part was hit twice once direct and once indirect ie monday chest secondary muscle used shoulders then on friday hit shoulders. basic point was every time you train you increase by a minimum of 1 rep or 1lb max 12 reps min 6

just need to look at me to see its a raging success Very Happy ok so I'm not the best advert for it

I think the method is more "Advanced" in terms of body parts hit, etc,.

BUT.....

The principle is sound, you should be increasing either weight or reps every time you train, by only very small amounts, unless how are you improving, and how is your body to respond to "overload".

Lifting the same amount of weight every time will not cause any "gains".

Think the last bit is the main point Gunner. To many people want it easy hence why supplements are so successful, truth is it is easy push yourself hard everytime you train, eat a balaced diet get adequate rest and most important time and plenty of it. The Guru Laughing
