I've just been reading the latest Cycling Plus and a interesting article on cyclocross bikes.

I'm not after a cyclocross bike, but one thing I'm after is a pair of cyclocross tyres.

I'm planning a route around the North York Moors next year, Namely "12 Crosses of the NYM ride" and forum readers will of no doubt seen it.

I've a choice of either the hardtail mtb bike or trekking bike. However the mtb would be ideal, but I'm bivving overnight in the area of Newtondale. So I'm deciding to take the trekking bike with pannier racks - namley Dawes Kara-Kum with 700cc tyres, this bike will cope with the rough terrain of the NYM.

Anyway I need a pair of 700cc cyclocross tyres with good grip and one brand I like the look of, is Vittoria Cross XG Pro 700x34.

Any advice.

hi m8

im needing some new cross tyres for my cross bike soon as well, the best cross tyres are tubs but your rims may not take them, also they come with a hefty price tag

the vittorias are nice tyres, but what you've got to remmebr with cross tyres is that there all about short term grip ( wel some a hard wearing ) so i wouldnt expect a long life. michelin ake good cross tyres also, but the tyres you were on about look pritty good, and grippy

Thanks for that, marty. The tyres will be short-term and like I say for the "12 Crosses Route". The clinchers should be fine for what I need, I'll probably go for the Cross XG Pro or Conti Speedking.

Just done a Wiggle and there have the Vittoria Randonneur Cross Pro 700x34 and decent price @ £22 each. I think these might be more suitable for the 12 Crosses being a mixture of rough track and tarmac road.

Anyway if I do purchase them, probably try them out on the Castle Eden Walk-Way.

I've tried out the Schwalbe Cross tyres this morning and say excellent grip on the slightly frozen Castle-Eden Walk-Way. Not good on black ice, came a cropper on the back road of Blakey Bank, caused by consent wear of car tyres. Still I'm pleased with them.
