If anybody's got nothing to do, then you could have a look and find me another pair of wheels for my Scott Spark.

I fancy having a spare pair set up with a "cross" or maybe even a "slick" tyre fitted so that I can give the bike a bit of road use or road/cross country use.

As the Scott is so light I'm prepared to accept a bit of weight at a compromise over price, I'm no weight weenie and there's also that training effect............. Wink

Currently fitted with these.........

Wheels: Mavic Crossride Disc Rims. Mavic Crossride Disc Hub [F]. Mavic Crossride Disc Hub [R].

Any suggestions Question

August 2009, John, I've heard it's going to be another Summer like 1976 Laughing Laughing

To be honest John, I might be out on it in the very New Year, I've got some nice routes planned and I'm hoping break in the bike on them. Wink

To be honest Gunner the Crossrides are a very good set of wheels, if your not too fussed about the weight, then I reckon another set of crossrides would do the trick, with just slick tyres.

I did have a look at some 'cross' specifc wheels but the prices are just silly in comparison to the crossrides or similar MTB specifc wheels, and they didn't look to offer any real advantages. You would have thought the sacrifice they make in strength would be made up by shredding weight, but no, the ones I looked at, speficially 'DT' where not much lighter and far more expensive

when you say 'cross' specific wheels do you mean cyclo cross, as these would be 700c and to big , and wont take discs...

You can pick up a pair for £125 online, or you could go for a custom pair of Mavic XC717 rims on a deore/xt hub for a similar price, the XC rims are the lightest MTB specifc rims that Mavic make. The latter might be a better choice.

Failing that I have just seen Mavic do some 'speedcity' wheels that are road/cross specific but that fit any MTB with or without discs, they might be useful considering your different bikes. They are a bit more pricey though, looking at £250 for a pair.
